Saint-Étienne has a well-developed public transport network, making it easy to get around the city and its surroundings.
Public transport
Saint-Étienne is served by the STAS (Société de Transports de l’Agglomération Stéphanoise) network, which includes streetcar and bus lines.
The tramway is a very popular means of transport in Saint-Étienne, as it allows you to get around the city quickly and easily. The city has three tramway lines (T1, T2 and T3) serving most of the city and its suburbs.
STAS buses complement the streetcar network and serve districts not covered by it. Buses generally run from 5 a.m. to midnight, with some lines even operating 24 hours a day.
To use public transport, you can buy single tickets, books of tickets or day or week passes. Tickets can be purchased at STAS offices, from vending machines located in tramway stations, or directly on board buses.
Bikes
Saint-Étienne also offers a self-service bicycle rental system, called Vélivert. With over 40 stations throughout the city, it’s an excellent option for those who want to get around in an eco-friendly, sporty way.
Cabs and VTC
Several cab and VTC companies operate in Saint-Étienne. They offer a practical solution for getting around the city, especially if you have heavy luggage or are traveling in a group.
Cars and parking
If you choose to drive to Saint-Étienne, please note that the city has several public parking lots, but parking in the city center can be difficult, especially during the Rugby World Cup. We recommend reserving your parking space in advance, or using the peripheral parking lots and taking public transport into the city center.
