TRAVELLING TO SAINT-ETIENNE - Airports and train stations

By air

Saint-Étienne is served by Saint-Étienne-Loire airport, located around 12 km from the city. It offers regular flights to and from several destinations in France and Europe. However, Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport, around 75 km from Saint-Étienne, offers a wider range of international connections and is another convenient option for reaching the city.

From Saint-Étienne airport, you can take a cab or VTC service to the city center. If you land at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry, regular shuttle buses will take you to the Lyon Part-Dieu train station, from where you can catch a train to Saint-Étienne.

By train

Saint-Étienne-Châteaucreux is the city’s main train station, offering direct train services from several major French cities, including Paris (2h50), Lyon (50 min), Marseille (3h) and Nice (5h). From the station, the city center is easily accessible by streetcar, bus or cab.

By road

If you’re planning to drive, Saint-Étienne is well served by a network of freeways. The city can be reached via the A72 from Clermont-Ferrand and the A47 from Lyon. Don’t forget that during the Rugby World Cup, traffic can be heavier than usual, especially on match days, so it’s advisable to allow extra time for your journeys.
