ToggleMedical services: Health services in Lille - Emergency and Pharmacies
When visiting Lille for the Rugby World Cup, it’s important to be aware of the medical services available to ensure your safety and well-being. Here is some useful information about emergencies, pharmacies and other medical services in Lille.
Medical emergencies
In the event of a medical emergency, dial 15 on your telephone to reach the SAMU (Service d’Aide Médicale Urgente). This will connect you to an operator who can dispatch an ambulance if necessary. For less serious emergencies, you can go to the emergency department of one of Lille’s many hospitals. The city’s main hospitals include:
- Lille Regional University Hospital (CHRU)
- Hôpital Privé La Louvière
- Clinique du Bois
We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover medical treatment in France.
Pharmacies
Pharmacies are widespread in Lille, where you can find prescription and over-the-counter medicines, as well as other health and beauty products. Some pharmacies are open 24 hours a day. If you need a pharmacy outside normal opening hours, look for a « pharmacie de garde ». Contact details are usually posted on the door of local pharmacies.
Doctors and specialists
If you need to see a doctor during your stay in Lille, you can make an appointment at a local practice. There is usually a charge for consultations, even if you are covered by health insurance.
If you have a specific need, such as a consultation with a specialist, you can ask for a referral to a general practitioner, or contact your embassy for a list of doctors who speak your language.
In any case, it’s always advisable to take a basic first-aid kit with you, containing items such as bandages, antiseptics and medication for common ailments like headaches, stomach upsets, etc.
