Transportation: Getting around Lille - Public transport and others

Lille is well served by public transport, making it easy to get around during your stay. Whether you choose to travel by metro, bus, bike or even on foot, here are a few tips to help you get around with ease.

The metro

Lille’s metro network, managed by Transpole, comprises two lines serving most parts of the city as well as neighboring towns. The metro is a convenient and efficient way to get around, especially if you’re going to rugby matches or other events in the city.

The bus

Lille also has an extensive bus network that extends beyond what the metro can reach. Buses are a great way to get to more remote areas or to explore the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. You can buy single tickets, booklets or unlimited passes, depending on the length of your stay.

The bike

Lille is a cycling-friendly city, with numerous cycle paths and pedestrian zones. The city’s self-service bike rental service, V’Lille, offers bikes for short or long-term hire, with numerous stations throughout the city.

On foot

Lille’s relatively compact city center is ideal for walking. Most sights, restaurants and stores are within walking distance. A stroll will allow you to enjoy Lille’s charming architecture and lively atmosphere.

Cabs and VTC

Finally, cabs and VTC services such as Uber are also available in Lille. These options can be handy for direct journeys or when public transport is less frequent, such as late at night.

Don’t forget to download the relevant transport apps or buy transport cards on arrival to make getting around easier and smoother. Take advantage of Lille’s ease of travel to discover all the city has to offer during the Rugby World Cup.
