Parking in Paris can be a challenge, not least because of the high number of vehicles in the city and limited space. However, with a little planning and an understanding of the parking rules, you’ll be able to find a space for your car.

Street parking

On-street parking is charged for in most areas of Paris, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm. Rates vary according to neighborhood, with higher rates in central Paris. Drivers must buy a ticket at a pay station and place it visibly on the dashboard.

It’s important to note that parking is limited to 2 hours in the same space. What’s more, some areas are reserved for residents or specific professions, so be sure to read the signs.

Public car parks

If you’re planning to stay in Paris for an extended period, it may be more convenient to park your car in a public parking lot. Paris has many underground and surface parking lots, operated by companies such as Q-Park, Indigo or Vinci.

These parking lots generally offer hourly, daily or weekly rates. They can be a good option for avoiding on-street parking restrictions, especially in busy areas. You can reserve a space in advance via the parking lot providers’ websites.

Low Emission Zones

Since 2017, Paris has introduced a low-emission zone (ZFE) covering the whole city. To drive in this zone, vehicles must have a Crit’Air sticker, which classifies vehicles according to their level of pollutant emissions. Certain high-emission vehicles are banned from the ZFE during rush hour.

Parking for World Cup matches

During the Rugby World Cup, stadiums such as the Stade de France will offer parking spaces, but these will probably be limited and reserved for ticket holders. It is therefore advisable to reserve your parking space in advance, or to consider other means of transport to get to the matches.

In summary, although parking in Paris can seem daunting, a good understanding of the options and rules can greatly facilitate your parking experience in the French capital.
